Reviews come around remarkably quickly. It helps to be prepared to make sure you’re getting the most of your review when it does happen.
Throughout the year, we encourage you to keep records (just notes, really) and write down the ‘pros’ and ‘cons’ of your child’s current plan. This will make it easier to determine what you, as a family, need when the time comes to review your child’s plan.
It can be a bit of a stressful time, so we suggest you try not to leave your preparation to the last minute. A plan review can require almost as much supporting evidence as your first plan, so start gathering documentation a few months before your child’s plan review is due.
Making a list of tasks and documents required is good practice. This can help you plan how and when to collect the information and documents. Try not to do too many at once. You’re already busy enough!
Questions to ask yourself that may help guide your thoughts:
- Has my child achieved the goals in the current plan?
- What has worked well? What hasn’t?
- Are we happy with the way our funding is currently managed?
- Which goals will we continue to pursue, and which goals will change?
- Who can help us pursue our goals?
- Will we need NDIS support in the future?
After your planning meeting, you’ll receive your NDIS plan. If anything is not correct, this is the time to get it fixed. As soon as you get your new plan:
- check all the details to make sure everything is correct and you’re satisfied with how the funds have been allocated.
- contact your Local Area Coordinator and ask for a review if you feel a few tweaks would achieve a better outcome for your child….don’t be shy, you know best!
