Key Word Sign Training
SensesWA is pleased to bring you Key Word Sign workshops, facilitated by a highly experienced presenter.
Basic Workshop
In the Basic workshop you will learn about the principles of KWS and gesture and how this supports communication. In the practical component of the course you explore natural gestures and will learn up to 80 signs. You will have the opportunity to practice using speech and sign together in interactive activities, building your skills in a supportive and fun group environment. You will leave the workshop with receive your own copy of the Getting Started with Key Word Sign book, helpful resources to consolidate your learning and a plan of the next steps in your KWS journey. If you would like to improve your sign fluency and expand your sign vocabulary, try the Intermediate workshop in September.
Intermediate Workshop
This workshop follows on from basic training. In this intermediate key word sign course, you will build your knowledge of key word sign and gesture in familiar, everyday activities, routines, games and songs. You will learn about using strategies and resources to encourage and support the use of sign.
The focus of this course is building your skills in signing accuracy and fluency through individual, small group, and whole group activities. You will revise the signs of the Interactive Vocabulary learned in ‘Getting Started with Key Word Sign’, learn between 80 -100 news signs and receive a signing resource pack to keep.
This workshop is a full day, face to face workshop. Completion of the basic workshop and regular use of Key Word Sign in practical settings are prerequisites for enrolment in this course.
